Former Toronto Maple Leaf and current Nashville Predators defenseman, Luke Schenn, is set to miss the next 4-6 weeks with a lower body injury.

Schenn played in the regular season opener against the Tampa Bay Lightning where he recorded 4 hits, 1 blocked shots, and played in 15:11 TOI. He had signed a 3-year deal with the Predators in the off-season worth 2.75 million per season.

The journeyman defenseman turned his career around in the last few seasons after many believed - including himself - that he no longer garnered interest around the NHL. After being drafted 5th overall by the Leafs, he had pit stops in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and Arizona, before landing in Anaheim and playing for their minor league affiliate.

He worked his way out of the minors and landed in Vancouver where he found his niche as a veteran, shot blocking, body checking, feared defensive defenseman. He moved on to Tampa Bay where he won 2 Stanley Cups, went back to Vancouver before a brief stint with the Leafs after the trade deadline. He was everything as advertised with Toronto and his reputation changed on a whim, which in part led him to his new lofty contract.

With his current timetable, Schenn will miss the chance to face off against his former team when the Predators welcome Toronto on the 28th of October. He could be back in the lineup when Nashville heads across the border to the Scotiabank Arena on the 9th of December.
