Yesterday, the KHL saw a play that could result in a suspension. During a net front battle, former Leafs draft pick Egor Korshkov received a 5-minute major, plus 20 minute misconduct for spearing a player in the groin. The clip can be seen below.

The now 26-year-old Korshkov was originally drafted from the KHL's Yaroslavl Lokomotiv by the Leafs. He was taken in the second round (31st overall) of the 2016 NHL entry draft (the same year Auston Matthews was drafted). He continued to play in the KHL until 2019, when he came to North America to join the Marlies for their playoff run. In the 2019-20 season, he continued to play with the Toronto Marlies. That year, he also played one game for the Toronto Maple Leafs, even managing to score a goal in his NHL debut. However, that game is the only one he has played in the NHL to date.

In February of 2021, his rights were traded by the Leafs to Carolina in exchange for reclamation project Alex Galchenyuk. His NHL rights have since been traded again to Florida. The 6-foot-3 Russian forward continues to play pro hockey in the KHL for Yaroslavl Lokomotiv, the same team he played for when the Leafs originally drafted him. Last season, he tallied 22 points (11 goals & 11 assists) in 44 games for the Lokomotiv.
