Last night's Game 4 between the Colorado Avalanche and the Edmonton Oilers ended on a controversial note with an Artturi Lehkonen goal that appeared to be deflected in with a high stick. After a brief review, the call on the ice stood and it was declared a good goal, thus eliminating the Oilers in a clean sweep, 4-0 in the Western Conference Finals with a 6-5 OT victory.

Former NHL official Don Koharski is now a Rules Analyst for the NHL on TNT broadcast and Koharski was working the game last night and had a chance to break down the call live as it was happening. The play was so razor close, that Koharski couldn't even contain himself, letting a cuss word slip on the live broadcast, saying out loud what the rest of us were all thinking while watching at home.

The goal, in my opinion, likely was a high stick, but because the call on the ice was a goal, the officials and the war room needed definitive evidence to warrant overturning the goal, it was probably the right call to allow it. It's just unfortunate that that happened to be the game-deciding goal.
