During the Preds' 3-2 loss to the Leafs a week or so back, Duchene was struck in the hand with a puck on a shot from his own teammate while trying to screen Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll. Duchene was in obvious pain after being hit by the puck and left the game favouring his hand.
We hadn't hear much about Duchene's injury since the time it occurred, but a report from NHL on TNT analyst Darren Pang has many cringing. Apparently, when Duchene blocked the shot, it severed the tip of his finger. Pang revealed that when Duchene took has hand out of his glove, the finger tip remained inside the glove.
We've seen some pretty gruesome skate lacerations in recent seasons and, of course, who can forget the infamous Sidney Crosby slash on Marc Methot that nearly cut his finger clean off as well? However, having a finger tip completely severed by blocking a shot - that's a new one for me.
Thoughts and prayers are with Duchene. Hopefully he is able to heal up from this injury and get right back to doing what he loves - even if he might be a partial digit short.
