In the latest 32 Thoughts blog, Elliotte Friedman reported that he had heard there had not been contract talks in months, but that the rumours of Campbell and the Leafs being "far apart" was no longer relevant. Friedman was also able to speak with Campbell's agent Kurt Overhardt who said that there's "been no material contract discussion since the end of the season".
For a team that will need at least one and likely two goalies for next season, you would think that contract talks with Campbell would be the top priority, and they would at least have had some communication by now. The delay could also be that Dubas and company are still reviewing all possible goalie options and their cap numbers with projecting contracts for their own UFAs and RFAs to see what works with their cap situation.
Let's hope some communication is made in the coming days and weeks, to at least see where each side is at and start the negotiation process. After all, we are officially into June and there's only about 6 weeks until free agency opens up. Worst case, they realize they are too far apart and best case, Campbell is back in the blue and white next season.
