During the second period of Saturday Night's Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals between Tampa Bay and the New York Rangers, Alexis Lafreniere took a run at Lightning defender Victor Hedman. The Lightning blueliner was caught in the head from his blindside and left the game. As of this writing, he has yet to return.

The referees have evidently decided to revert to the old style of playoff officiating. The difference between this series and the Tampa-Toronto first round series is staggering. It's also infuriating for Leafs fans, as penalties played such a huge role in Tampa's first round victory over the seemingly cursed Leafs.

Hits like these have no place in the game. The head is the primary, and only point of contact and Hedman never saw it coming. If the series continues after tonight, this hit should get a look from the Department of Player Safety.

**Update - Hedman has returned to start the third period**
