As Leafs fans, we are well aware of who the Toronto Sun's Steve Simmons is and the type of reckless reporting he has become known for. Simmons, who is known for occasionally skirting the line of what is and is not acceptable in journalism, made some comments on Sunday relating to former NHLer and Hockey Diversity Alliance founder Akim Aliu that were troubling, distasteful and completely uncalled for. Here's a look at what Simmons had to say:

Well, it didn't take long for Aliu to respond to Simmons' comments. The 33-year-old issued a video response to Simmons' article, calling the veteran hockey writer out for his reckless and uninformed commentary and revealing just a small portion of the issues he's had to endure over his pro hockey career. He did not pull his punches and went so far as to call for Simmons' job.

It's unclear what, if anything, will come out of this, but it's safe to say that Simmons was way over the line and has no business painting Aliu - a man whom he has never met, nor spoken with - in that light. Shameful behaviour and I'd imagine that we'll hear more about this as soon as Monday.
