Hockey Canada and the CHL have settled a lawsuit related to sexual assault that occurred in June of 2018. Following a Hockey Canada Foundation gala and golf event, the female plaintiff in the case claimed she was repeatedly assaulted while intoxicated in a hotel room. The lawsuit not only named Hockey Canada and the CHL, but listed 8 CHL players (unnamed), some of which were members of the 2018 Canadian World Junior Team.
According to the lawsuit she had gone back to a hotel with one of the accused and engaged in sexual acts with him. Following this, John Doe 1 invited other members to the room where they directed her to fondle her genitals, and perform oral sex on them. The players also allegedly straddled the plaintiff while placing their genitals in her face, slapped the plaintiff's rear end, spat on her and escalated their abuse of the woman in unthinkable ways.
The report from TSN goes on to say that Hockey Canada was aware of the allegations in 2018 and contacted the police and conducted an independent investigation, however no allegations were proven in court. Regardless of the settlement, it's absolutely disgusting and appalling behaviour, but once again, this is hockey culture thinking it's "okay" to behave this way. The victim has endured years of PTSD, including, low self esteem and depression, has, according to the report, prevented her from completing school, being intimate in relationships, and building a career the way she otherwise would have been fully capable of doing.
