Earlier this week, Rasmus Sandin walked out of Seattle's practice arena arm in arm with William Nylander after he was dealt to Washington in the middle of Leafs practice before the team travelled to Edmonton. After the Leafs acquired Jake McCabe from Chicago, Sandin was once again pushed further down the depth chart and was likely the seventh defenseman the rest of the season.

Many believe that Sandin's camp quietly asked for a trade in the days after McCabe was acquired, seeing the position he was in regarding playing time while others believe Sandin's time in Toronto was limited after his very public holdout in the off-season.

Now in Washington, Sandin is getting the opportunity he failed to grasp in Toronto when it was presented to him. Sandin's first practice saw him skating on the top pair in Washington with Trevor Van Riemsdyk. We will see just how well Sandin can handle the opportunity in a new environment. In 52 games with the Leafs this season he has just 20 points playing mostly third pairing minutes.
