If Matthews is expected to fight his own battles, why aren't more people talking about Max Domi stepping in to fight for Patrick Kane?

Near the end of the Leafs and Flyers game last night, Travis Konecny went after Auston Matthews. Not once, not twice, but three separate times after the whistle. They exchanged a few words and some quality slashes on each other's shin pads and then Konecny dropped his gloves and while trying to find the step ladder to reach Matthews' face, 39-year-old Mark Giordano came flying in and tackled him.

After being released and getting up Konecny again went after Matthews, but this time Michael Bunting wrapped him up and wrestled him to the ground. While that was happening Giordano ended up fighting Kevin Hayes.

While Leaf fans appreciated the support for Matthews and the sign of team toughness, former NHL enforcer Mike Rupp disagreed. He believes that Matthews should have fought his own battle and should in the future. Well what about Max Domi coming to the aid of Patrick Kane the other night against Minnesota? Kane got hit into the boards awkwardly, but got up and went after the Minnesota player that threw the hit, but as he was doing so, Domi came flying in, in the same way Giordano did last night.

No one complained about Domi stepping in for Kane. Granted, the situation was a bit different in that Kane had tried to hold Domi back, whereas Matthews didn't try to pull Gio away. Had Matthews fought last night, I'm sure there would have been more than a few people to chime in and say that it wasn't a real fight because he beat on a guy that was 60 pounds and 6 inches shorter. Well folks, you can't have your cake and eat it too so either all superstars have to defend themselves based on Mike Rupp's logic or none of them do.
