While some were worried that Mikheyev had suffered another unfortunate injury, others were speculating that Mikheyev had been pulled from the game due to Leafs GM Kyle Dubas including him in a mid-game trade.
The Leafs have been linked to several players in recent weeks and have long been rumoured to be looking for an upgrade on the wing in the top-six. It seemed logical that Mikheyev could be included in a trade package, given his status as a pending UFA.
While it was easy for most to jump to conclusions, the speculation was quickly quieted when the Leafs' PR account on Twitter announcing that Mikheyev was dealing with a non-COVID related illness.
No word so far on what the illness could be, but for an NHL player to leave a game midway through, it's safe to suggest that whatever Mikheyev is dealing with, it isn't mild.
We will continue to monitor the situation and provide an update as soon as one is available.
