Per TSN's Chris Johnston, the Leafs and Sandin's agent, Lewis Gross have been actively engaged in discussions to try to find a resolution to their contract debacle. Johnston revealed that the Leafs and Gross have discussed both 1-year and 2-year deals in an attempt to end the holdout.
Sandin had originally been in pursuit of a deal that, per reports, would pay him in excess of $2M per season. Early reports had him going after the Adam Boqvist (CBJ) deal, 3 years at $2.6M per season, but more recent reports had him looking for a deal closer to that of Jake Bean (also CBJ), at 2 years, around $2.33M per season.
According to Johnston, Sandin doesn't appear to be interested in his $875K qualifying offer and wants more on a 1-year deal. As for the 2-year deal, Sandin reportedly wants more than the $1.4M AAV that teammate Timothy Liljegren accepted this summer. If we're reading between the lines in Johnston's report, it sounds like Sandin would be willing to accept less than his original ask.
