It was a missed opportunity for Mete, but the team wanted to err on the side of caution. The good news for Mete, however, is that Keefe added that he hopes to get Mete into tonight's final preseason game against the Red Wings in Toronto. Currently, the 24-year-old blueliner is listed as day-to-day with a bruise and contusion.
If the entire team is healthy, Mete is likely not in the NHL. With that said, this injury could not have come at a worse time for the former Canadien and Senator. With Timothy Liljegren and fellow depth defender Jordie Benn still out, Mete has a chance in these final few days of training camp to prove he can come in and provide the Leafs with good, quality minutes when injuries do occur.
Toronto signed Mete to a one year league minimum contract this summer. The native of Woodbridge, Ontario has played 236 career games in the NHL over the last six seasons (four years with the Habs and two with the Sens). In that time, he has produced 43 points (5 goals & 38 assists).
