We know that the Leafs are going to have a great deal of turnover this summer and we also know that Perry was interested in Toronto as a potential signing destination awhile back. Could the stars finally be aligning to bring one of the league's longest-serving pests to Toronto?
The reason why a union between Perry and the Leafs could make sense is the potential departure of Michael Bunting, who is due a substantial raise this summer. If Bunting wants anywhere close to the $5M or more he might be able to net on the open market, the Leafs could look to replace his presence with someone like Perry, who is expected to come in at closer to the league minimum salary.
We are now just 37 days away from the opening of free agency and if Perry does indeed hit the market, it wouldn't be surprising to see Perry once again pursue a 1-year deal with the Leafs. Whether or not the new GM in Toronto would look more favourably on Perry than the Dubas regime did.
As you'll recall, it was Perry who was responsible for knocking Leafs captain John Tavares out of their first round series against Montreal a couple of years back. Accidental or not, it was a traumatic incident for the Leafs and Leafs Nation. It would be a trip to see Perry land in Toronto just a couple of short summers later.
