"Not quite there yet with Keefe returning. If it weren't for a press conference and a negotiation tactic, Dubas would be back. Just because Dubas is gone you can't say Keefe you're gone too, [but] I'm not convinced Sheldon is coming back. If Keefe is not the guy, you knew that a week and a half ago, but when the Dubas stuff fell apart it threw everything off path," said Hayes.
"If [Keefe] was going to return and the Core 4 and Dubas [were] going to return, ultimately Shanahan and ownership were going to do what they've done year after year; sell tickets, sell jerseys, have a great regular season and punch a ticket to the playoffs and that's it. From that standpoint, if that ends up happening, I'm not surprised because its the same thing year after year. Year after year, these guys run it back. I'm not convinced its going to happen, but I certainly won't be shocked [if it does]," continued Hayes, saying what many are thinking about the current make up of the team.
Hayes continued by touching on the power struggle that Dubas and Shanahan had and noted that with how things ended, it has certainly planted some seeds of doubt for new GM's because of what has been exposed to the media.
'Dubas obviously had power. He had his fingerprints all over the roster, but everything goes through Shanahan. That's what has been exposed the last couple of weeks. If he's made up his mind that these guys are coming back, it doesn't matter who the GM is."
At this point, if Shanahan has the final say on everything, he might as well just make himself GM and cut out the middle man so that we can all just get on with our days.
