Insider reveals that the Leafs have met with their first candidate for the vacant GM job in Toronto
There have been a number of names thrown around for the vacant general manager position in Toronto over the past few days, but perhaps one of the more consistent ones has been ex-Flames GM Brad Treliving. When team President Brendan Shanahan spoke on Friday, he emphasized the importance of trying to find someone with experience in the position. Well, Treliving has plenty of that, having been a GM for the last 9 years in Calgary.
While the Buds had received their approval from the Flames to speak with Treliving ahead of the expiration of his current deal, there were no indicators that he had actually interviewed for the position yet or if he had even been in contact with the team. Well, thanks to TSN's Darren Dreger, we have confirmation that the two sides have indeed spoken.
"I believe they have engaged with Brad Treliving, so the process is underway. What I don't expect Shanahan and company to do is go through a process similar to what CGY did, likewise with what PIT is doing in search of their general manager, where they identify as many as maybe a dozen candidates to interview. So this could be a week, it could be more. No specific timeline, but, again, they're leaning on experience." - Dreger on the Leafs having engaged in conversations with former Flames general manager Brad Treliving
While the Leafs aren't expected to interview a dozen or more candidates it wouldn't be surprising to see them speak with more than just a handful of candidates, despite what Dreger is reporting.
