There has been much speculation over what will happen with Babcock now. Will he still be eligible to take another NHL job if one becomes available? Is his latest indiscretion enough to have him blackballed from coaching at the NHL level? TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston was on Sportscenter this morning and was asked if we would see Babcock in the NHL again following his latest misconduct.
"Absolutely not," said Johnston. "This was already going to be his last job in the NHL. The way this has unraveled, I don't see him seeking other employment and I don't see other teams coming knocking."
The 60-year-old Babcock likely knew this was going to be his final job in the NHL, but after claiming he had done work to make himself a better person and coach over the past few seasons, his old ways continued to show through. The fallout from the hiring and resignation of Babcock could continue within the Blue Jackets' organization as there are now questions as to why he was hired and when these incidents took place. If they took place immediately following his hiring and if management in Columbus had known about them, there could be more heads rolling in Columbus.
