Woll attempted to catch a puck shot by the Senators from the corner, but in doing so, he leaned too far to his left side and appeared to pull something. Many people suspect that he may have suffered the injury on a sprawling pad save moments before on Senators forward Mathieu Joseph. Woll was down for a few moments before having to be helped off the ice by T.J. Brodie and Ryan Reaves as he was unable to put any weight on his left leg.
On TSN's That's Hockey on Friday, Chris Johnston provided an update on Woll and notes that he was seen leaving the arena on crutches. Johnston also revealed that Woll underwent an MRI Friday.
It's not only bad news for Woll, but also bad news for the Leafs, who now have to hope that Ilya Samsonov is able to regain his form from last season, coming back from a mysterious illness. Samsonov hasn't played since November 24th. They also have to hope that Martin Jones is able to provide steady goaltending when needed, playing as Samsonov's backup.
Woll had clearly become the Leafs' number one goalie and was starting his fifth straight game. If it wasn't for him, the Leafs undoubtedly would've lost Thursday night. While Leafs Nation holds their collective breath as they wait for a final diagnosis, we hope that Woll is able to return to action at some point this season.
