At the time, Keefe said he was going to miss significant time, but did not provide a timeline. Even after secondary testing, there was no elaboration from Keefe on the nature of the injury or the official timeline. Last night in his 32 Thoughts written blog, Elliotte Friedman revealed that Timmins will be out a minimum of four-six weeks with his injury. There are still no specifics as to what the injury may be, but in all likelihood, it is some sort of knee issue.
With Timmins out for at least the first month, the Leafs will be able to place him on LTIR, meaning his $1.1M salary won't count against the cap and the Leafs will only have to find a way to clear $1.8M off the books instead of $2.9M. The extra month or longer will allow the Leafs to massage their cap situation into a better place and buy themselves some time to be able to hopefully clear enough room to keep Timmins on the roster when he is healthy instead of having to place him or someone else on waivers and losing them.
