During yesterday's presser, Dubas clarified that he wants to be a GM in Toronto. In fact, he reiterated that twice during his time in front of the media. He cited that his family had a significant role in his decision-making, and his future as a GM in the NHL would rely heavily on a discussion with them.
Following his media availability, it was believed Dubas might have a new contract with the Leafs by the end of the week. However, insiders don't seem so convinced that could be true anymore.
It's hard to say the reason behind Dubas' extension talks stalling, but one can assume speaking with his family may have something to do with it. Dubas has young children; maybe he wants to spend more time with them, which could be playing into his decisions regarding his future with the Leafs.
There's also a possibility that perhaps a rift with President Brendan Shanahan or ongoing conversations between the heads in MLSE is holding things up. Either way, I can't imagine we'll be forced to wait too long, as the Leafs have a lot of work ahead this summer. They're either going to want to have Dubas re-upped in a hurry or to have a search for a new GM begin imminently.
