The Edmonton Oilers may have finally reached the point of desperation as TSN's Pierre LeBrun announced on Insider Trading on Thursday that the Oilers are kicking tires in the goalie market.

Before the 2021-22 season got underway, did anyone honestly think that at almost the midway mark in the season, we'd see Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and the Oilers in 7th place in the Pacific Division and 21st overall in the league?

It's been a wild season for the Oilers, who currently own an 18-15-2 record, and much of that is due to subpar goaltending and weak defensive play. If the Oilers are indeed interested in picking up a goaltender, who might they be after? Well, according to LeBrun, the Oilers have already inquired about Anton Khudobin (DAL) and Joonas Korpisalo (CBJ).

Call me crazy, but I'm not exactly sure that either one of those netminders would be enough of an upgrade in Edmonton. My gut tells me that if they Oilers want to make a splash and upgrade in net, they're going to have to move some money and bring in someone who can give them better than .882 (Korpisalo) or .879 (Khudobin) goaltending.

Some rumours have linked Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price to Edmonton, but if such a deal were to occur, it would almost certainly happen in the offseason, just because of how much money would have to change hands.

Another option could be Petr Mrazek in Toronto if the Leafs have indeed soured on him. I've seen some on social media discussing the idea of a Mrazek for Koskinen swap, with the Oilers retaining a bit of salary on Koskinen to keep his cap hit in the same ballpark as Mrazek's $3.8M due to the Buds being so close to the cap.

To me, the most logical move for the Oilers to make is for reigning Vezina Trophy winner Marc-Andre Fleury. The Hawks are not likely to qualify for the playoffs and Fleury is a pending UFA. He's the guy to watch for me.
