Now, all of the attention will turn to the outcome of Kane's grievance with the San Jose Sharks, who he believes wrongfully terminated his contract. If the grievance is successful, the Sharks would owe Kane $7M per season through 2024-25. However, if unsuccessful, Kane would be a UFA this summer.
According to ESPN's Kevin Weekes during an appearance on Tim and Friends on Wednesday, if Kane does make it to free agency, his next contract is likely to start with an 8. If the Oilers decide to bring him back, his next deal likely starts with a 7.
Kane suited up in 43 regular season games for the Oilers, posting 22 goals and 39 points over that span. He was also one of the Oilers' top producers in the postseason aside from Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, racking up 13 goals and 17 points in 15 playoff games.
It's mind-boggling how someone who causes so many headaches for the teams he plays for can get away with it simply because he's good at hockey.
