Heading into the first year of his 7-year, $49M deal with the Flames in a couple of weeks, Nazem Kadri reportedly had a few reasons it took so long for him to sign. According to Pierre LeBrun, Kadri had an offer very early once free agency opened. It was believed to be worth $8.5M per season on a 6-year deal. Obviously, Kadri didn't see the right fit with that club and turned it down.

LeBrun also reported that Kadri was waiting to see if the Islanders and Lou Lamoriello would be able to clear cap space so they would be able to make him an offer. Clearly that did not happen, in fact, not much happened in Long Island this summer, even though both Kadri and the Islanders had interest. At least Kadri is saving thousands of dollars on razors over the next 7 years, not having to shave every day.

Doing his best to dig up more information, LeBrun contacted Darren Ferris, Kadri's agent to see what other teams made offers to him. Ferris, unfortunately would not disclose the names of the other teams, but did state that it came down to three teams before Kadri elected to sign with the Flames.
