For Nick Robertson, this training camp is a pivotal one after failing to stick in the NHL last season. At 21 years of age, Robertson is approaching that stage in his career where it's going to NHL or bust. The good news is that his elder brother, Jason Robertson, really didn't burst onto the scene and breakout at the NHL level in Dallas until his 21-year-old season either, so perhaps they're just a family of late bloomers.

Robertson spoke with the media on Wednesday, following a rookie practice ahead of the team's upcoming Traverse City Prospect Tournament. He stated that his goal is to stick in the NHL this season, stating that he has no plans of returning to the AHL. He has his eye on the prize and he's even packed on some extra weight this summer, hoping to come in a little thicker and stronger than he has in seasons past.

Robertson suffered a devastating injury last fall, fracturing his right fibula in October, which sidelined him for approximately 3 months. When he came back, however, he came back with a vengeance, scoring 16 goals and producing 28 points in 28 games. The next step for the Leafs' 2019 2nd rounder is making the NHL and making it stick this time. Coming in with an enhanced focus and a thicker frame certainly shows Robertson's mindset. With training camp opening up next week, he's got something to prove to himself and his team - and he intends to prove it.
