Now it appears that Treliving is closing in on signing Weegar to an extension as well. Weegar, 29 is entering the final year of his deal that will pay him a measly $3.25M and will surely be looking for his new deal to be worth between $6M and $7M per season, if not more. In speaking with the media this morning, Weegar all but confirmed his extension is essentially done saying, "We're trying to get something done and hopefully we'll get it done soon."
By the sounds of it, Weegar is eager to have something in place before the season and possibly even before training camp begins. With just over a week until camp starts, that doesn't leave them much time, but the likely scenario is that he signs something during camp so that he doesn't have the stresses of wondering what will happen throughout the season. He will then be able to focus on hockey and hockey only, something that we saw benefit Morgan Rielly after he signed his extension. His game was elevated to another level knowing that he would no longer face any questions about his future from the media and that he knew he wouldn't be going anywhere.
