All season long, fans have been wondering whether there might be something wrong with Auston Matthews and for good reason. We've seen him miss or pass up usually guaranteed goals more than ever this season, posting a career low shooting percentage and struggling to score at 5v5 for much of the year. While he still has 12 goals and 27 points in 25 games, he has not looked like himself until more recently.

In a new piece for NorthStar Bets, TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston all but confirmed our suspiscions when he reported that Matthews is believed to have been playing through some nagging injury issues early in the year.

For a guy that's been playing through nagging injuries, he's still contributing in all facets of the game offensively and defensively and is still better than most players in the league. If Matthews is able to stay somewhat healthy the rest of the season we should almost certainly see a similar Matthews to the one that we saw last season once his wrist was fully healed. That's bad news for the rest of the Atlantic Division and great news for the Leafs and their loyal fanbase.
