Earlier this week, there was a significant amount of chatter as to who the next captain of the Vancouver Canucks will be after the departure of Bo Horvat last season. Horvat, of course, was dealt to the New York Islanders in a high profile trade well ahead of the trade deadline.

Following this chatter, Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal had stated that he'd like to see J.T. Miller wearing the C in Vancouver, regardless of his friction with the media, his behaviour on the ice at times in recent years and his lack of commitment to defensive play. Dhaliwal really hammered home the point that Miller just hates to lose. He's a player who is driven by winning, which was Dhali's rationale for wanting to see him wearing the C in Vancouver.

However, on Friday, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman revealed on his 32 Thoughts podcast that he has spoken to a number of people who have told him that Quinn Hughes will be the next captain of the Canucks.

You could certainly make a compelling argument for either player becoming the next captain of the Canucks, but Elias Pettersson, if he agrees to sign an extension, is also not a poor choice. Pettersson is a franchise cornerstone and without question the Canucks' best player. The problem here is that he is unsigned and, according to reports, he may not sign a new long-term deal if the Canucks flounder again this season.

Who do you think the Canucks will select as their next captain? Let us know in the poll below!
