With J.T. Miller signed long-term, the Canucks now need to figure out how to lock up their captain to a new deal before the NHL's trade deadline or run the risk of having to move him. Bo Horvat is in the final year of his deal, which pays him $5.5M for the upcoming season. He's slated to become a UFA in the summer.

Horvat is coming off of a 31-goal, 52-point season, while the rest of the team struggled at times to score. Negotiations between the team and Horvat, however, are tense right now and there has not been much progress made on finding a new deal.

According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, if the Canucks and Horvat are unable to reach an extension by the trade deadline, the Canucks could look at the option of trading him. Now that would also depend on where the Canucks sit in the standings, but it does come as a bit of a surprise that Horvat could be traded. It's not often we see a captain, much less one in the middle of his prime, traded. But, if it does happen, there's no doubt the asking price will be high.
