The Edmonton Oilers are not off to a very strong start in 2023-24, having dropped each of their first two games against a heated division rival in the Vancouver Canucks, who currently sit 2-0-0 on the season after a disastrous 2022-23 campaign.

To add insult to injury, Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl took a pretty substantial hit from Canucks forward J.T. Miller in this one, as he attempted to curl back with the puck at center ice, in between the two benches.

Draisaitl appears to have seen the hit coming at the last second and was able to brace himself, but he did go straight to the bench following the hit to collect himself. Thankfully for the Oilers, Draisaitl did not miss a shift, which is great news if you consider the fact that they'd be hard pressed to dig themselves out of the early hole they're in if Draisaitl had been lost to injury.

It's far too early for the Oilers to hit the panic button. Obviously, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are two of the best players on the planet, so it's far more likely that they turn things around and go on a bit of a run than that this stinker of a start continues.
