Less than one week ago, J.T. Miller inked a brand new deal with the Vancouver Canucks, settling on a 7-year term and an $8M AAV, both of which are statements on how the Canucks feel about the 29-year-old versatile forward. Today, he took part in a media call to respond to questions about his new deal, the upcoming Canucks' season and everything in between.

"I'm really excited to be spending this chapter of my life and my hockey career in Vancouver and to get it out of the way before camp so I can focus and be clear-minded and have a clear head is exciting."

-Miller on getting an extension done before training camp

Among the messages that Miller wished to send was that he feels as though the Canucks have come a really long way in a short amount of time. He expressed his feelings about how close and how tight-knit the team is and pointed to Bruce Boudreau coming in partway through last season as a time where he and the rest of the team were really having fun winning games.

A lot of the talk surrounding Miller and the contract negotiations was about finding the right dollar figure. Most figured that Miller was holding out for more money, but Miller himself revealed that the money was secondary to wanting to get a deal done in a place where he thinks he has a chance to win. He also confirmed that he left money on the table because staying in Vancouver was important to him.

"It's a lot of money and I feel very fortunate to be in the spot I'm in... We thought that we were going for an offer that was fair on my end and the trumping factor was that I want to be in Vancouver and I love this group of guys and I want to win in Vancouver. I still believe we have the team that can do it there.

"I want to be somewhere we can win hockey games. I'm ready to get the season underway, I think we're going to catch a lot of people by surprise."

-Miller on what he expects to be a very competitve Canucks team this season
