For those who don't recall, Toronto reporter Steve Simmons put out a hit piece when Kessel was a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2015, stating that the forward would buy and eat hot dogs before every game. Kessel refuted the story at the time and then, years later, after winning a Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Kessel decided to throw some shade at Simmons by sharing a photo of himself with the bowl atop the Stanley Cup full of hot dogs.

The problem with that story wasn't the fact that Kessel was devouring a very unhealthy piece of meat before every game, it was the fact that Simmons made the story up. Kessel has had a lazy stigma put on him since his early days and this was his way to push the narrative.

Fortunately it was rectified after people pointed out there was no hot dog vendor outside his condo. Simmons then stated that the source of his hit piece came from "a friend of one of my kids who lived in the same condo that Phil lived in".

Well, Kessel seemingly isn't done harping on Steve Simmons over the hot dog saga. On a recent Instagram post, Jack Eichel confirmed that Phil Kessel has, in fact, eaten hot dogs out of the Stanley Cup yet again.

Eichel confirmed the news on Instagram 48 hours ago and fans are absolutely loving it. Kessel is no stranger to butting heads with members of the media, but at least he's willing to laugh about it and outwardly show the sense of humour that mostly only his teammates get to see.
