As if Monday evenings matchup against the Montreal Canadiens wasn't already an ugly enough outing for the Maple Leafs, who are going into the 3rd period down 5-0, they will also be going into the 3rd period and likely the next stretch of games without defenseman Jake Muzzin.

With just a handful of seconds remaining in the 2nd period, Toronto's Jake Muzzin and Montreal's Chris Wideman collided inside of the Habs' zone, with Muzzin getting the worst of the exchange, his head bouncing hard off the ice.

Muzzin remained on the ice for several minutes, being attended to by a Leafs trainer before getting back to his feet and making his way off the ice and down the tunnel.

The scariest thing about the ordeal is that Muzzin is not even a month removed from his recovery from a concussion that he suffered back in mid-January. He finally returned to action with the Leafs on February 10th after missing almost a month of action. This is Muzzin's 6th game back.

This is a tough break for Muzzin, who is celebrating his 33rd birthday on Monday. That's a tough hand to be dealt.. getting blown out by the Habs and potentially being re-injured in a freak accidentally collision in the dying seconds of a period. Here's hoping that Muzz is able to avoid any serious injury. Best wishes for a quick recovery for the Woodstock, Ontario native.
