We all know how questionable the officiating has been lately in games involving the Toronto Maple Leafs. We tend to feel as though the referees are out to get us or that the league has some sort of an anti-Leafs bias. Well, during a Sunday matchup between the Dallas Stars and Washington Capitals, one of the most egregious and obvious dirty plays occurred involving Stars captain Jamie Benn while the officials just looked on with their whistles in their pockets.

During the dying seconds of the game, with the Capitals' net empty, a puck race between Benn and Capitals defender John Carlson went from competitive to downright dangerous in a matter of seconds.

You can see Benn deliver a hard cross check to the hip/side of Carlson, who is moving at a high rate of speed to get to the puck, sending him crashing hard into the end boards. An obvious penalty that very surprisingly went uncalled. Here's another angle showing just how hard Calrson spills into the boards:

I can't imagine that this one will fly under the radar with the Department of Player Safety. It's very obviously suspension worthy, it's just a matter of how many games Benn will get.

The NHL needs to crack down on officials who refuse to do their job. Carlson, a superstar defenseman for the Caps, could have been very seriously injured on the play. Disgusting.
