As if Bowen and his longtime commentary partner, Jim Ralph, haven't been insulted enough, they are now forced to call away games off of a monitor. They don't travel with the team, instead they are made to sit in Toronto and watch the game on TVs like the rest of us. This not only makes their jobs more difficult, it hurts the product as they don't have a full view of what's happening on the ice.
Last night, the Leafs wore their blacked out "Flipside" uniforms for the first time this season. I'm not sure if it was the camera angle in Nashville, or my eyes getting worse, but I was frustrated watching the game. The white outline numbers on the jerseys make it very difficult to see the numbers at time, which makes figuring out who's who that much more difficult. Apparently, I wasn't the only one having issues.
Bowen took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice his concerns over the jerseys. He included a photo of his view, the game being streamed on at least 5 TV screens in front of him.
Now I'll admit, I like the jerseys. In fact, I bought one when they came out. In person and up close, they look fantastic. Having said that, I'm with Joe here. Differentiating the players on TV is a chore when they actually wear them. If you ask me, they should have kept last year's gorgeous Reverse Retro jerseys, making them the 3rd jerseys instead of the Flipside ones.
