Jon Cooper discredits the Leafs in Game 5 win, says the Lightning beat themselves
Jon Cooper has been handing out bulletin board quotes all series long for the Leafs, and after winning back to back Cups, he should be allowed to for the most part. Following Game 5, Cooper tried to discredit the Leafs' comeback win saying the Lightning weren't making the Leafs earn it, that they were handing it to them.
This is likely his way of firing up his team for Game 6 at home, but his comments about Leaf wins have gotten embarrassing. To say the Leafs didn't earn any win, but especially tonight's win is just plain arrogant. I think anyone who was watching would agree that the Leafs earned every bit of that win.
Through 4 games, neither team had come back after giving up the first goal, let alone the first two goals of a game and there had not been a single lead change until the third period tonight. The Leafs ramped up their compete level and dominated the second and third, minus a couple of defensive lapses and ill-advised pinches, but that's where Campbell stepped up and did his job.
Keefe should be posting Cooper's comments all over the board in the dressing room before Game 6 and telling the Leafs to push them to earn the win in Game 6 in enemy territory.
