Jordan Binnington takes a run at 6'4, 220lb Jordan Staal and gets knocked on his ass
St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington has become more known for his wild, sometimes reckless behaviour on the ice rather than for winning the Stanley Cup as a 4th string goaltender. Over the years, Binnington has tried to intimidate his opponents, sometimes even getting physical. However, on Thursday, he messed with the wrong bull.
During Thursday's meeting between the Carolina Hurricanes and St. Louis Blues, Binnington came out to play the puck, but veteran center Jordan Staal had other plans, getting to the puck first and attempting to fire the puck around the boards behind the net. Binnington then made a decision to try to lay a big hit on Staal, which went horribly wrong for the netminder, who wound up getting the worst of the exchange.
Staal, 6'4 and 220 lbs, is no stranger to physical play and he's built to inflict punishment on his opponents. The former Stanley Cup winner landed 212 hits last season and is on pace for another 200 hits this year as well. Perhaps Binnington should choose his targets a little more wisely next time.
