The Toronto Maple Leafs had certainly experienced their fair share of ups and downs with former Leafs blueliner Justin Holl. After spending 8 seasons as a part of the Leafs' organization, Holl was allowed to walk via free agency this summer and signed a multi-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings, which will keep him in Detroit through 2025-26.

Just as the Leafs did, the Red Wings are experiencing their ups and downs with Holl as we speak. After starting the season as the 7th defenseman, Holl was able to work his way back into the lineup and spent a good stint as the league's +/- leader. More recently, Holl's performance in Detroit has come back down to Earth. Now a +7 on the season with just 3 assists to speak of, Holl will find himself in the press box in Detroit once again.

Holl finally took part in his first full NHL season last year, playing in 80 of 82 games for the Leafs. He also played in 8 of the Leafs' 11 playoff games. So far, through 15 games this season, the Wings have dressed Holl in just 12 games.

The Red Wings will kick off the NHL's Global Series in Stockholm Sweden today against the Ottawa Senators before playing the 2nd of back-to-back games against the Leafs tomorrow afternoon. It seems likely that Holl will dress for tomorrow's game against his former team just to ensure that there is at least one fresh body coming in for the second half of a back-to-back.
