Keefe took the time to stand up for Campbell during his availability. He admitted that Campbell has «not played to the level he's established for himself» but noted that the Leafs' schedule has been disrupted and it's hurt Campbell's rhythm. Rhythm and routine can be huge factors for a goaltender, especially one who is on a heater like Campbell was to start the season. Large breaks and sporadic scheduling can wreak havoc on a goalie's mental game and I think we're seeing the effects of it now.
Keefe reiterated his faith in Campbell's abilities though, and challenged the team to be better defensively in front of him «he's trying to find his game and he will find his game. But our guys have got to help him out, we have just not done that and that's disappointing»
The Leafs have a re-match against the Devils on the schedule for tonight. Keefe has not revealed who will occupy the starter's net for the game, but it would not shock me to see Campbell get the nod.
The 30-year-old is slated to take part in the All-Star Game this weekend, along with friend and teammate Auston Matthews, who will captain the Atlantic Division.
