Keefe does his best to avoid discussing goaltending concerns during post game comments
It was a wild night in Detroit on Saturday, with 17 total goals scored and the Leafs coming out on the right side of a surprising 10-7 final score versus the Red Wings. Despite the poor save percentages for all 4 goalies in the game, including both Jack Campbell and Petr Mrazek, Keefe wasn't about to provide a headline for the hungry Toronto media:
Talk of Ilya Mikheyev and the PK was the focus of Keefe's comments on this night. When your team nets 10, there's bound to be a few positives, but the fact that they needed to get 10 -- or even 8 -- to win the game is alarming.
Sure Marner scored 4, and the top line continues to be buzzing, combining for 15 points on the evening, but when you allow an opponent to score 7 after establishing a big lead that has to be cause for concern.
Makes one wonder what Kyle Dubas will identify as the problem and how he'll plan to address it. Even if Keefe won't talk about it, let's hope Dubas took note of this one. Defense? Goaltending? What does he see as a priority? What asking price is he willing to pay to improve the team? I guess we'll find out by the trade deadline on March 21st.
