Keefe provides update on Jake Muzzin's condition
After two injury plagued seasons, Jake Muzzin is missing the start of training camp with the Maple Leafs. Muzzin suffered through 2 concussions and a rumoured hip injury during the regular season last year, but was excellent for the Leafs in the playoffs. Now he is out with what Sheldon Keefe described as "back discomfort".
"I wouldn't say concern, considering it's nothing related to the things that have been on the front burner in terms of monitoring for him. It's just the last little bit he's had some discomfort in his back and ultimately we decided that, with today being the hardest days of the year, it was a good time to give him some additional time away. So we'll evaluate him after a week and see where things settle.
- Sheldon Keefe on Jake Muzzin's health status
It's both good and bad news that this is a new injury. The good news is that it's not something chronic that didn't heal properly over the off season. It's also good news that he's being held out for precautionary reasons and only for one week. The bad news is that once you start down the road of back injuries, it's awfully hard to recover fully. Lets all hope that Muzzin simply slept on the wrong side of the bed and that his «discomfort» clears quickly. The Leafs are a better team with him on the ice.
