On a day where the Leafs got some good news in the morning with Morgan Rielly and Carl Dahlstrom taking to the ice for the first time since they suffered their respective injuries, the last thing the Leafs needed was to lose another defenseman.
Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe was able to provide a bit of positive news about Sandin following the Leafs' most dominant win of the season, saying that the staff made the move to pull Sandin as a precaution rather than him being unable to continue to play.
It was a smart move by the Leafs, given what they learned about Jake Muzzin's neck injury a few weeks after it happened. Hopefully Sandin is not out for an extended period of time, as he was playing some of the best hockey of his young career prior to suffering the injury on Tuesday.
Keefe also said that Sandin is going to be re-evaluated over the next day or two, as the Leafs do not play until Thursday. Once Thursday's game is out of the way, the Christmas break kicks in, so if Sandin misses Thursday's game, he'll have nearly a week of additional time to rest and recover before the Buds are back in action.
