Following a sub-par performance in the season opener where he gave up 5 goals on just 24 shots, Ilya Samsonov will have the opportunity to redeem himself on Saturday night. While the Leafs managed to escape with two points in a 6-5 shootout win, Samsonov admitted that he did not enjoy the game.

Following practice on Friday, Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe confirmed Samsonov would start again against the Wild tomorrow night. He also revealed how he plans to get Joseph Woll involved early in the season. He said that he plans to have Samsonov and Woll split games in similar fashion to the way that Samsonov and Matt Murray did last season when Murray was healthy. That likely means that Woll will see action on Monday when Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks come to town.

Over the last few seasons, the Leafs have started a little on the slower side, often ending October with an even record before going on a November tear. Samsonov has faired surprisingly well in October throughout his career going 12-3-1 in 16 games while Woll, who is a perfect 3-0 on November in his career, will get his first taste of attempting to play through some of the early season sloppiness this coming week.
