Yesterday, the Leafs made a bit of a surprising trade as they traded Denis Malgin to Colorado for Dryden Hunt. This was Malgin's second opportunity with the Leafs and after a great pre-season, he was expected to fill the second line, left winger role. Unfortunately, the 25-year-old failed to seize the opportunity as he registered just 4 points in 23 games.

Today following a brief morning skate, Sheldon Keefe was asked about Malgin's second go around with the Leafs, to which he responded by saying, "We brought Malgin in here, gave him an opportunity and it hasn't worked the way he probably wanted to."

Throughout his 23 games with the Leafs, Malgin was given plenty of opportunities in the Leafs' top-six, but failed to produce alongside John Tavares and William Nylander and that led to him being demoted to the third and fourth lines. He was a fairly effective "grinder" for the Leafs, but again was unable to produce using his skill in the role which is what the Leafs were hoping for.
