Last season, Johnsson struggled mightily and was placed on waivers at one point by the Devils before being traded to San Jose as part of the Timo Meier deal. He only appeared in 13 NHL games and recorded just three assists while skating in 36 games in the AHL with the Utica Comets, where he notched nine goals, 21 assists and 30 points in 36 games.
Johnson's best season came when he skated next to Auston Matthews in 2018-2019 when he scored 20 goals and had 43 points. In 259 career NHL games Johnsson has registered 116 points. Johnsson will look to revitalize his career in Pittsburgh, potentially getting some ice time with Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin.
