Dubas announced to reporters from "The Sunshine State" that Ryan O'Reilly is expected to return before the playoffs begin, which is music to the ears of those in Leafs Nation. O'Reilly has been recovering from a recent surgical procedure after suffering a broken finger a few weeks ago courtesy of an Auston Matthews shot. The original timeline was four weeks.
With Dubas confirming O'Reilly will be back before the playoffs, his original timeline, should he be able to meet all of his checkpoints, would give O'Reilly 4-6 games to get back into game shape before entering the playoffs against Tampa. O'Reilly is also scheduled to resume skating this at some point this week as his recovery trends towards an eventual return.
In 8 games with the Leafs after being acquired along with Noel Acciari from St. Louis, he has 3 goals and 5 points. The line of O'Reilly, John Tavares and Mitch Marner was on fire, including a combined 13 points against Buffalo earlier this month. Once he returns, expect Keefe to reunite the trio and shift Tavares back to the wing, where he looked fairly comfortable and his foot speed wasn't as much of an issue.
