Until today, the team had been carrying 3 goaltenders just in case. Now, Woll finds himself among two sent down to the AHL's Toronto Marlies. The 24-year-old did not play any games for the Buds during his most recent call up, but owns a 2-1-0 record, with a 2.04 GAA and a .938 SV% with the Leafs this season.
With Woll going down, it's a good sign that whatever Samsonov had been dealing with is now cleared up enough to the point that he'll be able to play. The Leafs have yet to confirm a starting goalie for tonight's game, but Woll and Samsonov were the two putting in work on Monday, with Matt Murray having the day off after Saturday's start. I'd imagine we'll see Murray in against the Isles, but we'll have to await confirmation from Sheldon Keefe following today's game day skate.
In addition to Woll heading down to the Marlies, the club has also announced that forward Alex Steeves would be heading down as well. Steeves has played in just 3 games for the Leafs this season, registering no points and carrying a +/- rating of -2.
