Leafs announce starting goalie for tonight; surprisingly it's not Matt Murray
After going 2-0-1 in his return to action last week and a day off yesterday, many would have thought Matt Murray would make his fourth consecutive start for the Leafs tonight. However, with four games this week, including a Friday/Saturday back-to-back, the Leafs have decided to give Murray an extra couple of days rest.
"Today would have been four games in six days for (Murray). That's a lot to ask for any goalie, never mind a guy coming back off injury reserve ... at the same time, Kallgren has done a good job for us."
-Keefe on the decision to give Kallgren the nod over Murray on Monday
Erik Kallgren will be between the pipes tonight as the Leafs welcome the Islanders to town. Kallgren is 2-2-3 with a .873 save percentage through 8 games (7 starts). He hasn't played since November 12 against the Canucks, which was a 3-2 win for him and the Leafs.
Kallgren will look to build on that win and provide the Leafs with the same confidence that Murray gave them last week in the hopes of getting into another game this week.

Kallgren's overall numbers leave a lot to be desired, but it's worth noting that he's coming into tonight's game boasting a .931 SV% at 5v5 this season. He'll look to try to build off of those numbers against an 11-8-0 New York Islanders team who comes into Monday's game on a 2-game losing streak.
