After the Leafs hit the ice for an optional skate this morning, head coach Sheldon Keefe spoke with the media ahead of their matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight. In his responses, Keefe mentioned that recently recalled goaltender Joseph Woll would be in the crease Saturday night on the second game of a back-to-back for the Buds, which means that Ilya Samsonov will not be going back-to-back.

Without a doubt, Woll has earned the start tomorrow night. In the AHL this season, he has a 13-1-0 record with a 2.36 GAA and a 0.930 SV%. Simply put, Woll has had a stellar season and deserves a look.

Samsonov's appearance tonight against the Blue Jackets marks his ninth straight start. Even though he's coming off of a week-long break, you don't want your number one goalie to burn out before the playoffs come around.

Woll appeared in four games last season with the Leafs, earning himself a 3-1-0 record with a 2.76 GAA and a 0.911 SV%. Hopefully, this will make the transition that much easier with the Leafs playing the Blue Jackets in what will be Woll's first appearance in a Leafs uniform this season. The Blue Jackets rank 29th in the league in goals, 28th in shots on goal, and are tied for 30th in shooting percentage.
