Leafs announce the passing of a former player
The Leafs announced Monday that former Leaf and PGA of Ontario Hall of Fame Inductee Ken Girard has passed away at the age of 86. A Member of the Leafs across three seasons from 1957 to 1960, Girard played 7 games in the blue and white, registering just 1 point and 2 penalty minutes.
He was an outstanding right winger with the Toronto Marlboros, winning two Memorial Cups in 1955 and 1956 before making the jump to the Leafs. Girard spent most of his 6 professional seasons playing for a variety of teams in the minor leagues as he was never really to find a way to stick in the NHL.
Girard retired from hockey at the age of just 23 before finding his way into golf. Although his stint with the Leafs was short, he was a Leaf and deserves to be honoured as such. Thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to Girard's family, friends and anyone who knew and loved him.
