The Leafs announced a slew of roster updates this afternoon before their 5:00PM game against the Washington Capitals. The bad news we knew was coming is that Auston Matthews has officially been placed on IR. The good news is that TJ Brodie is set to return, having been activated off IR today, he will suit up for the first time since January 7th.

Matt Murray's ankle injury will hold him out of the lineup tonight, and so Joseph Woll has been called up from the Toronto Marlies. The 24 year old has been nigh unbeatable since returning from an injury suffered before the start of the season. He is the owner of a sparkling 12-1-0 record since coming back, his only loss coming in a game where the Marlies failed to score at all.

I order to call up Woll, Bobby McMann was sent back to the Marlies. The 26 year old undrafted winger has impressed in his time with the Leafs despite not having recorded a point in his 8 games with the team so far. McMann being the one sent down would appear to indicate that Joey Anderson has earned himself an extended look with the big club. Unlike McMann, Anderson has found the scoresheet this season with 2 goals and an assist in 9 games so far.

I have to say, I'm excited to see Woll get some playing time. Hopefully he can get at least one start with the Leafs before being sent back down to the Marlies. It's a good time for the Leafs to do some experimentation to see if Woll is ready for the big time.
